There is no experience quite like road tripping to your destination. From the preparation and the excitement building up the entire trip to the hours of sing a-longs to your favorite songs and finding random great restaurants and attractions while on your way to your vacation, going on road trips can be filled with fun and scratch that itch of adventure that many of us have found since being forced to sit in the house for a year due to the pandemic. To ensure you have the best experience while road tripping though, you have to plan accordingly and be adequately prepared. Here we have prepared five of the best tips to make your road trip as smooth and fun as possible.

  1. Make Sure Your Vehicle Is Ready

You can't go on a road trip if your mode of transportation isn’t ready to make the trip. Be sure that your vehicle is clean and tuned up before you take it on your adventure. It is best to take your vehicle to a mechanic a week or two before your trip just to ensure that everything in your car is in working order. The last thing you want is to end up stranded or having to cut your trip short because your car wasn't ready to make the trip.

  1. Get Plenty Of Rest

Safety should always be on the forefront of your mind, especially if you are going to be the main driver for your road trip. One of the worst things you can be while driving is exhausted, so make sure you get plenty of sleep before you start your trip. Also be sure to figure out the route you will take so you can also plan your rest stops accordingly. Staying well rested will keep you safe and also keep the trip enjoyable no matter the distance.

  1. Pack Some Snacks

Most road trips do come with a deadline. The typical road trippers are usually driving to a vacation spot and have to get to their destination by a certain day they have already arranged. This means you don't want to have too many unnecessary stops on your trip. Traveling with others, especially children, you can expect frequent bathroom breaks or complaints of hunger. To avoid frequently stopping for the latter, be sure to pack plenty of favorite snacks. This way, you can keep your energy up as the driver while also taking care of your passengers and minimizing the frequency of stops.

  1. Bring Entertainment

Sitting in a car for hours on end can be boring. Sitting in a car for hours with kids who are bored can ne torture for us adults. To keep the road trip fun and stress free, you have to stay entertained. If you have a portable dvd player or a tv in your car, bring plenty of movies for your passengers to stay distracted while you drive. Make a music playlist for yourself so you can jam out and enjoy the drive listening to your favorite tunes. Also, try some traditional road trip games, like I Spy, just to keep everyone in your car engaged with each other.

  1. Save Room For Adventure

We stated previously that you want to avoid frequent unnecessary stops. However, that doesn't mean you should cut out random stops along your trip altogether. What's the point of road tripping without a little discovery and adventure? While on your trip, look up some local attractions that you may be passing. Find some random restaurants or diners and try something new at every stop. Be sure to document as much as you can as well. You'll find that even if some places you stopped at were unpleasant at the time, you'll look back on those memories fondly as you recall the adventure.
