3 Basic Tools Every Trailer Owner Should Keep In Their Arsenal
Whether you’re taking your trailer to the track, the campgrounds, or the water, it has to spend some time on the open road. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of the beginning of another adventure. There’s also nothing quite like an unexpected issue to delay the fun. We can’t always predict or avoid all the hazards that exist out there. We can always be prepared so we can turn these potential road blocks into mere speed bumps. It doesn’t matter if it’s for regular maintenance or for roadside repairs, these three basic tools are essential and you should not leave home without them.
1. Flat-Tire Repair Kit
Flat tires happen. But when you’re headed to a weekend of fishing or ATV racing, they can seem like the end of the world. The first priority is to get things patched up so that you can get on your way as quick as possible. While some of us have gone through this before with a car or truck (which usually have spare tires ready), not all trailers come with spares. So what do you do if you don’t have a spare for your trailer? For starters, you can always pick one up at our online store by clicking here.
But if you’re on the road, sometimes it’s easier to pick up a quick flat-tire-repair kit. You can pick one up for as little as $5 at most gas stations. It’s a small price to pay to save you a few hours stuck on the side of the road!
2. Spare Brake Lights
While you should already have working brake lights on your trailer (and should check them before every trip), you can’t anticipate a light going out. Rules vary a bit from state to state, but one thing is clear: in most states, it’s illegal to drive a trailer without functioning brake lights. This means if you get caught with a broken light, you may be on the receiving end of a ticket.
Have a spare set of brake lights and light bulbs handy to avoid a costly warning and stay safe on the road. It’s good to have spare bulbs around, but it’s also possible your issue may turn out to be electrical. If that’s the case, having spares could make all the difference. Click here to pick up a set.
3. Air Compressor
Maybe you already thought ahead and you do have that spare tire available. When was the last time you checked if it needed air? There’s nothing worse than sweating it out replacing your tire only to find out it’s as empty as the one you just took off. Now you’ve done all the work and still need to call your roadside assistance company. Man, so close!
Having a decent air compressor (preferably one that hooks up to your car’s 12V chargers) could be a life saver. Whether you’ve fixed your tire yourself or put on a spare, this basic tool will allow you to get back on the road quickly.
When taking on the outdoors with your ATVs, motorcycles, boats, etc., it’s never a bad idea to be think ahead. You can’t always be ready for every obstacle you may find on the way to your destination, but here at Tropic Trailer we want to make sure you get there and back safely and smoothly.
